Begin by separating color from contour

An under-eye concern can look similar in a photograph while having a different explanation in person. Pigment, visible vessels, thin or textured skin, a structural hollow, and a shadow from puffiness can overlap.

At your LUVION consultation, describe what you notice in normal lighting and what you would consider a worthwhile improvement. Bring a history of previous under-eye injections or surgery, ongoing swelling, eye symptoms, and current medicines. The assessment may lead to a treatment discussion, a different approach, or a referral.

How PRP and PRF differ

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, and platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, are blood-derived preparations used in some aesthetic treatments. PRP commonly uses an anticoagulant during preparation; injectable PRF is generally prepared without one and forms a fibrin network as it clots. Preparation methods matter, so the name alone does not tell you exactly what is being used.

Neither should be described as a guaranteed substitute for hyaluronic acid filler or surgery. Ask which preparation is proposed, what it is intended to change, and what evidence supports that goal.

What does the evidence suggest?

A 2026 randomized split-face trial reported improvements in under-eye pigmentation, fine wrinkles, and mild hollowness with both PRP and PRF. Overall clinical results and satisfaction were comparable, with some measured differences favoring PRF. Severe hollowness was not sufficiently corrected.

That study was small, and preparation methods differ across research. These results do not establish a universal winner or guarantee a result for your skin. A plan should allow time to reassess rather than promise a fixed number of sessions will erase dark circles.

When another approach may fit better

If your main concern is contour or persistent puffiness, a skin-quality treatment may not address what bothers you most. A consultation should separate these goals before any product is selected.

HA filler is a different category of treatment with product- and location-specific indications. Its risks include swelling, nodules, and rare blood-vessel complications that can cause tissue injury, blindness, or stroke. The under-eye area warrants particularly careful assessment; filler is not the default answer to every dark circle.

Discuss recovery and safety before deciding

Using your own blood does not make an injection risk-free. Ask about bruising, swelling, discomfort, infection prevention, the planned recovery period, and whom to contact if you are concerned afterward. Review your medical history and medicines with the treating clinician, and do not stop prescribed medication on your own.

Seek emergency care for sudden vision changes after an injection. Follow your provider’s written instructions and report unusual or worsening symptoms promptly.

A plan made for your concern

LUVION offers consultations by appointment at Modern Beauty Bar in Green Valley, welcoming patients from Sahuarita and Tucson. We can discuss your under-eye concerns, the available services, and whether an alternative evaluation is more appropriate.

The goal is a meaningful, proportionate improvement that respects your existing features. It may involve staged care, a conservative starting point, or choosing not to inject.
