What neuromodulators actually do

Expression lines develop partly because the same muscles repeatedly fold the skin when you frown, squint, smile, or raise your brows. A neuromodulator temporarily decreases the signal between a nerve and a selected muscle. When that muscle contracts less strongly, the skin above it may appear smoother.

Neuromodulators do not add volume and they do not permanently stop movement. Their effects gradually develop and then wear off. The goal at LUVION is not to erase every expression—it is to decide which movement is contributing to your concern and how much softening feels appropriate for you.

Botox and Jeuveau are similar—but not interchangeable

Botox Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA. Jeuveau contains prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs. Both are botulinum toxin type A products, but each is manufactured and measured using its own product-specific process.

That distinction matters: the prescribing information for both products states that their potency units cannot be directly compared with or converted into the units of another botulinum toxin product. A safe plan uses the labeling, training, and clinical judgment specific to the product being administered.

FDA-approved treatment areas are product-specific

Botox Cosmetic is FDA approved for temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines, lateral canthal lines, forehead lines, and platysma bands in adults. Jeuveau is FDA approved for temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines in adults.

Clinicians may use an approved medication outside its labeled indication when medically appropriate. This is called off-label use. Lower-face concerns, lip flip, gummy smile, chin dimpling, masseter treatment, and several other commonly discussed aesthetic uses may be off-label depending on the product and treatment area. Your consultation should clearly distinguish labeled and off-label treatment and review the associated risks, alternatives, and limitations.

How LUVION personalizes the plan

Two patients can point to the same line and need very different plans. One may have a strong muscle pattern, another may rely on that muscle to support brow position, and another may have a line that remains visible even when the face is at rest. Treating the line without understanding the movement can create an imbalanced or heavier result.

  • Your facial movement at rest and with expression
  • Muscle strength, symmetry, brow position, and facial proportions
  • Prior neuromodulator treatment and how you responded
  • Whether you prefer softer movement or a more polished result
  • Medical history, medications, allergies, and treatment contraindications

The most important choice is the treatment philosophy

Patients often begin by asking which brand is best. A more useful question is whether the assessment, dose, placement, and follow-up are designed around the individual. Product selection matters, but thoughtful planning is what makes the treatment feel like you.
